A Mary Heart
One of the names repeated in the Bible is “Mary.”
Three Mary’s found in the Bible bless us and teach us much about what a child of God’s life and heart should be like.
Here's what we can learn from Mary the mother of Jesus, Mary the sister of Martha and Mary Magdalene.
- A Mary heart turns bitterness into blessedness. Mary went through bitter experience of humiliation for nine months, when she was told about the birth of the Jesus through her.
- A Mary heart is about availability and not ability (Luke 1:37,38). She was willing to lend her womb to carry the Savior of the world.
- A Mary heart is willing to get down and get dirty (Luke 7:37,38,44). If we want to be blessed, we should be willing to become dirty for the sake of Christ like the Mary Magdalene.
- A Mary heart is a person who is not dominated by the past failures. Jesus turned the Mary into a Magdella, which means ‘high tower.’
- A Mary heart is a humble heart. Mary the sister of Martha was the younger sister and was willing to be known as the second best, although Jesus himself commended her (Luke 10:38ff).
- A Mary heart calls worship what others calls a waste (John 12:5). For Mary, the sister of Martha, giving something precious to Jesus was never a waste.
- A Mary heart is willing to walk in to difficult state although others walk out (Matthew 27:61). Like Mary Magdalene we should be stay close to Jesus even in the most difficult time in life.
God is always looking for a Mary heart among the believing community. Such hearts always please God. May we ask God to give us a Mary heart and help us to grow to that level so that our life may become a sacrifice pleasing to God.
