Have you ever used a knife that didn't have a handle? I haven't.

You cannot use a knife, sword, axe or spear effectively without a proper handle.

The handle of these sharp instruments is called a “haft.”

A haft enables the user to have a good grip on sharp instruments.

I may be sharp, but God cannot use me unless I allow Him to have a grip on my life.

How do we cultivate this grip or HAFT? These four attitudes will determine our usefulness and effectiveness.

  • HEART — we should cultivate passion and zeal to do the ministry of the Lord. A heart that is willing to serve and work wholeheartedly (Colossians 3:23).
  • AVAILABLE — God is able to accomplish more and great things with those who are available than those who are talented and able but not available.
  • FAITHFUL — God looks for faithfulness over capability. Dependability is the greatest ability. Reliability and loyalty matters more in the kingdom of God.
  • TEACHABLE and TEAMPLAYER — A child of God should be always willing to learn good things, particularly the Word of God. We must understand the importance of working as a team. The secret of spectacular victories lies in teamwork. One horse can pull 9,000 lbs., but two horses together can pull more than 27,000 lbs.

“Use your body as an instrument of righteousness for His glory.” (Romans 6:13b)

Have you allowed God to grip the HAFT of your life? Ask the Lord to help you cultivate these important attitudes.
