Over time everything in this world changes. Some for the better and others for worse.

And yet, the Bible says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever" (Hebrews 13:8). This is known as the immutability of Christ, and it is profound.

Here are just three things that prove Christ’s immutability:

  1. The superiority of Jesus makes Him supreme. The key word in the book of Hebrews is “better.” Jesus is superior to anyone who is considered great by human standards. Jesus is considered better than all the 46 significant Old Testament prophets, the powerful angels, the lawgiver Moses or even the first High priest, Aaron. All these great figures are created beings and cannot remain immutable like their Creator, Jesus.
  2. The Word of Jesus is the most powerful. Jesus created everything by His Word. Jesus sustains the world through His Word. Jesus judges the world according to His Word. He has the power to judge the sinner, but also the power to cleanse them of their sin—unlike the prophets. His Word is incomparably powerful and cannot be changed.
  3. The immutability of Christ shows His consistency. Jesus Christ is always consistent and so can be trusted in any circumstances. He remains the same always. This mandates us to completely obey Jesus and His Word. God always desires obedience from us more than sacrifice (I Samuel 15:29).

Jesus never changes. He will always be our Savior and Lord. May we also never waver in faith, as Jesus is the Author and Finisher of our faith.

He has promised to sustain you all through your spiritual journey (Matthew 28:20). He will not fail you. So trust and obey Jesus today.
