Water baptism is an outward sign of an inward change.
What is the “inward change?”
The inward change is repentance of your sins, believing in your heart that Christ died for your sins and only HE can forgive your sins, and He rose again from dead. You also confess with your mouth that Jesus is the Lord and Ruler of your life.
You need to be old enough to understand, believe and confess that Jesus is Lord.
The 3 most outstanding descriptions of the meaning of water baptism:
- Public profession of your faith in Christ. If you want to follow Christ, you must first believe in the saving work of Jesus on the cross. You must confess Jesus as your personal Savior and Lord with your mouth (Romans 10:9-10). This faith in Christ has to be publicly testified through water baptism. Jesus modeled for us in the Jordan river (Matthew 3:13-17).
- Mark of obedience to the command of Jesus. Through water baptism a believer in Christ shows their obedience to the command given by Jesus before His ascension to heaven (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:16). Only those who believe and confess in the work of Jesus on the cross are eligible to witness the Lord Jesus in water baptism.
- Symbolic identification with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus (Colossians 2:11-12). Most importantly, baptism in water through immersion means you identify with what Jesus did. It is a symbolic testimony that you are burying your old sinful nature and willing to live the new victorious life through the resurrection power of Jesus Christ.
Pray the Lord help you to understand the importance and significance of water baptism. This first step of obedience will help you live a victorious life and receive the help of the Holy Spirit.
Peter said, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you…and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38).
If you have not obeyed Him in water baptism, DECIDE TODAY.
Heaven will rejoice and help you. God will use you.
