A man faces a crisis when his friend arrives at midnight. His culture requires he show hospitality to his guest, but he has nothing in the house. In India, we sense his predicament. The first thing we ask of a guest is, “Is there anything I can get you to eat or drink?” But what if you have nothing to give your guest?
The man with the unexpected guest has a special and unexpected need. When in need, you approach a trusted friend who will offer help in a midnight crisis.
All he wants, all he needs is bread. He asks to a simple and practical item. But his simple and practical request meets a cold response. Hasn’t this happened to us? When we approach humans with a critical need, too often, the response is “no.” That “no” may come with a sharp tongue.
What a friend we have in Jesus!
